Consider a recent report from the Bipartisan Policy Center. The report says that in the month of August, the Treasury has to make $306 billion in payments, but it will take in only $172 billion. I read reports that indicate that will be enough money to pay interest on the debt, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, defense contractors and unemployment benefits. Unfortunately, there would be no money left for active duty military, federal workers, and a number of other programs. I don't like to admit it, but sometimes that happens with my budget too.
Now consider that the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) currently has a job opening listed on their web site for a controller. This person will be responsible for the day-to-day finance operations and will supervise the accounting staff which includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Other responsibilities include analyzing financial data, manage cash flow forecasting, and assist in budgeting and planning. Qualifications required include: Keen analytic, organization, and problem solving skills, which allows for strategic data interpretation.
I often hear about bipartisan discussions in the news, but they don't seem to address any of the problems that I deal with every day. I can't say that I've seen the job posted on Craigslist. I considered the possibility of my applying for the Controller position that the BPC has available and I decided that it is just not for me. Actually, I am definitely not interested in that position.
